Understand the property
The age, structure, existing materials and condition of the building are considered before the work is specified.
Gary Marcks is a Suffolk plasterer working across listed buildings, period homes, renovations and modern properties.
Every project starts with understanding the building, how it was constructed and the materials best suited to the work.
About Gary and his work
Traditional knowledge. Practical experience.
G M Plastering & Lime Rendering works with properties of many different ages and forms of construction.
Gary has completed projects on timber-framed buildings, clay lump properties, solid masonry homes, listed buildings, extensions and contemporary interiors.
This breadth of experience means the work is considered in relation to the building rather than approached with one standard solution. Suitable backgrounds, compatible materials and careful preparation all form part of achieving a sound and appropriate finish.
Specialist experience
Older properties need materials that work with their original construction. Breathability, moisture movement and natural movement within the structure must all be considered before work begins.
Where required, Gary can work alongside conservation requirements and other specialists involved in the project. Advice is based on the condition and construction of the property, not simply its appearance.
The approach
Good plastering begins before the finishing coat is applied.
The age, structure, existing materials and condition of the building are considered before the work is specified.
Sound preparation creates the correct background and avoids concealing problems beneath a new surface.
Each surface is completed with close attention to junctions, original features and the character of the property.
Buildings and materials
Historic fabric
Preparation and plastering that retain original framing and use compatible backgrounds.
Building performance
Breathable insulation and render systems selected to improve performance without trapping moisture.
Clean finishes
Plastering for renovations, extensions and modern properties, finished carefully and ready for decorating.
The aim is not to make every building look new. It is to complete the work properly while retaining what gives the property its character.
